Question:
Anyone lost 300 lbs w/ Lap Band?
Have people been successful losing 300 lbs w/ the Lap Band? Do most people need revisions??? — Julie F. (posted on July 21, 2002)

I had the rny but the recent studies are saying that purely restrictive
surgeries (lap band/VBG) are better for those who have less to lose and
restrictive/malabsorptive surgeries (like RNY and BPD/DS) are better for
those who have more to lose or who tend to eat sweets. There is a high
revision rate for lap bands now, but apparently it is more due to the
inexperience of the surgeons than to the equipment/surgery itself. It would
probably be a good option if you A) Are a lightweight B) Are not a sweets
eater and C) Can find an experienced surgeon whose revision rate has gone
down in recent surgeries.
