Question:
Just wondering..post-op RNY how much less fat do we absorbe?
I heard post-op RNY we absorbe 20% less fat than what is in what we are eating. Is this true? How much less have you heard? — Allison T. (posted on July 18, 2002)

What a good question! Wish I knew. Personally I do not care how much fat I
eat as I have "yellow stools" which I believe means I am
"crapping out the fat". However I asked a question on that around
a month ago and both times this site would'nt post it for me. Yet someone
else posted the question for me and they listed it. (That is on the yellow
stools & fat). Go figure. Anyway I assume we don't absorb much fat so I
concentrate on watching my carbohydrates. Since I'm still losing, I guess I
may be right. Hope someone knows for sure.

I want to know the answer too! Has anyone heard ANYTHING about the
percentages? Is the yellow stool thing right too?

I guess it depends on how much intestine is bypassed (distal, medial,
proximal). If 1/3 of your intest. is bypassed, I would assume that you
will not absorb 1/3 of the fats ingested. Thats just my guess though. And
about the yellow stool...I had yellow stool until 6 months post-op, since
then, brown. What does that mean?
