Question:
How do they typically handle routine allergy meds?

It took my Primary care and and Allergist 2 years to hit upon the right combination of meds so that I wouldn't have severe allergy problems. I take allegra once per day (not the time released type), duratuss-g twice per day, flonase and have a Proventil inhaler for a rescue inhaler. If I'm not faithful in using these things, I have terrible drainage that takes lots of time to cough up in the mornings. Has anyone had any experiences in how this is handled during surgery. My surgery is scheduled for August 15 and I don't want anything to mess this up.    — Cathy S. (posted on July 1, 2002)

I think the best thing for you to do it to talk to your surgeon about this.

I take Zyrtec-D for allergies and nasal spray and I have had no problems at all. I am one month post-op. Actually for some reason, my allergies have been bothering me less since my surgery. Good Luck.

I'm running into the same problem. When I met with my surgeon I asked him the same thing. What he told me was that we would probably have to crush the meds for awhile. Especially that big duratuss-g tablet! I haven't had my surgery yet so I can't tell you how it went. But, you'll probably want to check it with your surgeon. Good luck!
