Question:
I am a coffee drinker. I also add Swiss Miss to it (low in sugar). I am discouraged
and posted last week about losing weight so slowly. I am wondering if anyone has info on coffee drinking. I drink one or two cups per day.Could the caffeine slow down weight loss? I am trying to see what I need to change to have more successful weight loss. Thanks to all for your input. Much appreciated! — lovebug2 (posted on June 24, 2002)

Caffeine is an appetite stimulant. Caffeine also dehydrates. For every cup
of coffee, drink an equal amount of water to make up for it. Almost every
day, I go to my favorite Java House (they didn't see me for 10 months! Must
have thought they would go broke!)and I order a 20 ounce SKINNY Latte' made
with 1/3 caf & 2/3 decaf. When I have drunk it half down, I go home and
add a Swiss Miss no sugar added hot coco & fill it to the brim with
boiling water. Yum.

I drink both regular and decaf and have'nt had any problems with ether
dehydration or slow weight loss because of it. Perhaps some people do. I'd
sooner think you are eating alot of carbohydrates. ;)

I don't think coffee has too much to do with it. In my opinion, protein
consumption and frequent small meals are more important. I had a long
plateau and broke it by increasing my protein to 100 grams a day and
reducing carbs (protein bars really helped with the cravings). I noticed on
your profile that you said you are losing inches but not weight. If so, you
are not REALLY on a plateau! Especially if you are exercising, you could be
building good ol' muscle and getting healthier while staying at the same
weight. Hope this helps!--a fellow coffee addict =)
