Question:
Was anyone super nervous just going to their 1st consult?
I have my first consult today with my surgeon and I am so nervous. I may as well be having surgery today, it's that bad. Any experiences will help. Thanks guys! — Heather .. (posted on June 19, 2002)

Hi Heather ~ perfectly normal. I was nervous before going into my first
consult because I wasn't 100% positive I was doing the right thing. After
going to the first doc, I realized I wasn't doing the right thing ~ at
least not with him but I didn't give up. I continued to researched and
find out all the information that I could to educate myself. I looked at
the pro's and the con's and I put the rest in God's hands and chose to just
allow things to either fall into place or not. The second visit to the
consult with the new doc? Scary too. :) Then comes all the pre-op tests
and yes...you guessed it, nerves get all wound up at the slightest little
bump in the road as you make your way to surgery's door. Ahhh - and then
the big day - yes, more worries & concerns can absolutely be there.
All the what if's and all that good stuff. Then, you make it through
surgery and everything is peachy keen and then there's a whole new set of
worries and concerns. It's an emotional roller coaster but you know
what...seems like a lot of other things are in life as well. Us, as human
beings, seem to love to worry & stew over things ~ makes the ride a bit
more 'exciting', I guess. Hang in there and know that your feeling as
normal as a lot of us did - do.

My first consult is July 10th & I too am super nervous!! I get really
happy that it is so close, then I get scared, I want this sooo bad, I'm
afraid something will get messed up for me! I'm driving my family nuts
(short trip, I assure you!). I'm going to take a list of questions I want
to ask, because I know that between my nerves, the 1 1/2 hr drive, and my
mom & husband going with me, I'll forget something important!! Good
luck,and hang in there!
