Question:
What does it mean when your PTH levels are high?
I am supposed to have surgery on June 11. My blood work says my PTH levels are high. Does anyone know what that means? — Cinna G. (posted on June 4, 2002)

I am not really sure but I think PTH levels give the doctor a indication of
how well your bones are doing. This is especially important after wls as we
lose weight rapidly and with weight loss comes bone loss. IT is very
important to take calcium citrate to keep healthy bones. Have you had a
dexascan to show your true bones and what risk if any you are at for
osteoporosis before surgery.. If not, see if you can get your pcp or
surgeon to schedule you one.
Best of luck.
