Question:
Sorry to have to ask this ~
It's been five days since I've been able to keep down anything of substance. I am 7 weeks and a few days out of surgery and have been trying to eat just a little bit of anything for the past few days but it seems like I can't hold anything down. I've thrown up every night for the past five nights. At lunch time, I held down a cheese stick and anything over a bite or two of anything is making me full - wondering how normal it is. I'm wondering if I should go back to my full liquid diet stage or just eat those things that are really mushed - maybe it's not time for me to start trying other things. Will this pass? This is the gross part so please stop reading now if you have a queasy stomach....and WHY is my "url" looking like a bunch of little jellyfish with legs? Aye, aye, aye - what a new experience all of this is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. — Lisa J. (posted on May 30, 2002)

Hello. Anytime I had a problem with food, I'd revert back to what was
working previously (i.e., softer foods, or just full liq's). Try to go
back to full liq's and then try small amounts of food a little at a time
again. Instead of eating the whole cheese stick, try eating 1/4 of it,
then waiting a few minutes to see how it settles with you, then eat more
etc. careful not to "graze" or take an hour to eat the whole
thing. Good luck and God Bless!

Hi -It's possible that you are not chewing enough, the outlet from your
stomach will never get any bigger then it is after surgery. So try chewing
more thoroughly, it might work. Good Luck !!!

Sounds like you have closed up...i have done this for over a year... it
isn't painful or scary it's very simple to get dilted..call the doc and let
him know that you cant keep anything down. you are right at the right
place for this to happen....after he stretches you , you will be fine. good
luck.....

*Warning* My answer is not for you weak stomach folks....Although you are
little further out than most stricture folks, it sounds EXACTLY like what
happens to me when I need a dilation. I had my first one 3.5 weeks post op
and another one today. It gets to the point where I can't even keep water
down! I vomit everything...including those lovely jellyfish with
legs...the only difference is that my jellyfish also have a lovely foam
topping. LOL All kidding aside though...call your doc. It's an easy
procedure and you will feel like a million bucks afterwards! Good luck!
