Question:
Post-op, has anyone's bathroom habits changed?
Specifically, since my surgery 7 months ago, I find it takes me FOREVER to urinate. No pain, nothing else difference, but it sometimes takes forever to pee out what I used to do. I don't have anything else that's changed, so I'm wondering if any other postops have experienced this. — scottiemaam O. (posted on May 28, 2002)

i am 26 days post op and find the same thing happens to me. i feel like i
have to pee and then it's just a drip or it takes forever to come out. not
exactly a pleasant subject, but it happens. i also notice in the morning i
go very little which i used to go quite a bit. maybe not enough fluids?

hi. i am very new, just had surgery 5 days ago. but i used to be able to
sit on the toilet and go potty and get up. And now i sit and have to wait
about 5 minutes before anything will come out, although i know it
eventually will. it's pretty weird, but i don't force it, i guess b/c i am
new and dont want to hurt my tummy.

For a long time (maybe 10 months), I had difficulty urinating. There was no
pain, it just took forever to go and I never urinated alot, quantity-wise,
where as pre-op I did. Unfortunately, I never figured out what it was and
to this day (15 months post-op), I still don't urinate as much as I used
to. I'm sure there is a VERY logical answer to this, like not drinking
enough liquids during the day... :-)

I have found it is a little harder to start urinating but my Primary Care
told me that because of the excess weight I used to carry around it would
just sit on top of my bladder like a weight. I used to have accidents.
Now, I urinate longer but less frequently and sleep through the night most
times. I still have excess skin hanging over my bladder but the weight of
it has lessened. It hope this may help.

Yes, I thought it was just me... : ) But, it takes me much
longer to urinate the same amount. I have no idea why, as I'm sure that
they didn't alter my uritha while they were
doing my open RNY! I will ask my surgeon when I see him next, and post his
answer.
