Question:
How do you take vitamins with food?
How do you post-op RNY-ers take your vitamins with food? I was planning on taking most of mine with food because I know they absorb better that way, but it dawned on me yesterday that we can't drink anything with our meals. I cannot swallow a pill by itself, especially some of the vitamins I am taking--they are huge! And not all of them are capsules that I can open up into my food. How do you all do it? Thanks for any advice! — Kristie B. (posted on May 17, 2002)

My doctor only lets me take the liquid form or the chewable vitamins. Ask
your doctor and good luck.

Hi! I take mine in a spoonful of pudding (SF/FF of course!). It always
works and it's great! I take all my meds this way! That way, I don't have
to worry about the drinking problem! I do eat the pudding & pills with
my meals (usually as my last bite). Good Luck!

I take a swallow of water with my vits, that will not hurt. Then I eat my
food. The idea of not drinking is so you don't push the food or vitamins
through the system too fast and it won't be absorbed. Make sure you check
with a pharmacist about crushing or opening capsules, some are not supposed
to be.

I take mine with a small sip of water after I eat, that way the vits ride
down slowly with the food, cannot go thru any faster, and have that extra
time to absorb. A tiny sip won't hurt, any more than tiny does hurt me
though.
