Question:
Does it hurt to have your JP tube removed?
I have my first post-op appointment tomorrow, where I will hopefully have my JP tube removed and I am scared to death it will hurt. — Tiffany Y. (posted on May 15, 2002)

When i had mine out i had the same fear but to my surprise it was very easy
and didn't hurt a bit. If you made it thru the pain of surgery this will be
a breeze. I think getting the NG tube out of my nose was alot worse. Good
luck!

I didnt have to have one of these tubes. But I would like to tell you that
I am a nurse and we remove these from patients pretty frequently. Most
people say it pinches or stings just a little, and almost everyone (of my
patients)have said it wasnt near as bad as they had expected. I think you
will be fine. You obviously show a strong character to have the surgery
done in the first place. Good luck and happy losing!!

It really doesn't hurt much at all to have the JP drains removed. The
nurse told me that it would feel weird and wouldn't hurt--there was a
pinching sensation for about a millisecond, and then it was over. She was
right--it was more weird feeling than painful. I wouldn't worry about it.
After everything else we've been through, this is one of the easiest parts!
Good luck!

I had an infection starting in mine and the incision had a lot of pain to
the touch. The doctor just pulled it out fast and hard and once it came
out, my pain stopped. It felt a little weird coming out because I could
feel it snaking around inside my body before it popped out. I was
surprised at how long the tube was (about 14 inches)!!

My experience was like Barbe's. I felt like my guts were being yanked out.
It really hurt..deep inside. The pain lasted several hours, but many
friends of mine had no pain, so it varies. Take your pain med an hour or
so before you have it removed. If it does hurt, this will help.

Hi. I thought that the removal of my JP tube was going to
be as horrendous as it was in 1983 when I had my g/b
removed and I can still feel that pain. hehe. However,
the doc just told me to take deep breaths, exhale and to
hum when he said to---and it was out in a flash. No pain
whatsoever!

HI! I had a JP drain for 1 week after surgery. I am happy to report that
I had no pain with the removal and I am a puppy. BUT, I did continue to
drain from the site for another 2 weeks and that was very irritating.
