Question:
WHY CAN'T SOMEONE MAKE A PROTEIN BAR THAT TASTE GOOD?

I have spent a small fortune on buying different protein bars only to find that they are sooo nasty that I can't even eat more than a bite. My latest try was the Biochem Ultimate Lo Carb 2 bar. They have 20 gm protein, 3 gm carb and no sugar. I tried all their flavors and they are disgusting! I spent over $9.00 buying one of each flavor and ended up throwing them all out with one bite out of each. Anyone have any ideas of protein snacks?    — Peggy D. (posted on May 15, 2002)

Try a Dr. Atkins chocolate with coconut, I think they call it a chocolate mocho. This is as close to a mounds bar as you will ever get. I also hated them all, but after finding this one, I cant't believe anybody would suffer thru the others. Good luck!

I like the Chocolate Coated Strawberry Cheesecake bar made by Pure Protein or any of the Met-Rx Protein plus bars are good. Each of these has between 30-35 grms protein depending on the flavor! The carbs are a little high, but for me that's okay because that's all the carbs I eat for the day! Good luck!

If you get creative, you can make your own. I took some peanut butter, softened it in the microwave, added some whey protein mix, and a few chocolate chips. I figured it up and its pretty comparable to a protein bar. The only thing is by using the peanut butter it has more fat than some bars do. So I dont eat this every day. I also like the EAS advantage bars--the cookies and cream is the best. I dont care for the bars in general so I get a good one, even if it has a few more carbs than the others. And I eat on it all day, a little at a time. Dont know if this helps, but it works for me. Best of luck to you!

I am so totally addicted to 2 protein bars that I buy them by the box at GNC with my Gold Card discount the first of the month a save a lot. The 2 are Atkins Advantage Chocolate Mocha Crunch and a new one called the Frosted Cinnnaon Swirl. These have zero sugars and 19 grams of protein. Some people think the fat content is too high, but in 15 months I have surpassed my goal and lost 175 lbs. I use these for a snack and my morning breakfast. Good Luck!

These aren't necessarily protein bars, but they do have 10g of protein, so that's what I'm using instead of a candy bar. Here's the info: Luna (made for women) 180 calories 4.5g fat 26g carbs 12g sugars 10g protein The only flavor I've tried is smores...but these are the BEST by FAR...and I've tried A LOT! Adkins, EAS, PowerBar Protein Plus, YOU NAME IT!!! The website is www.lunabar.com. You can get them at SuperTarget for $1.19.

Hi Peggy, try the Atkins Praline Crunch, they are great!!! 1 bar is 2.11 oz, has 240 Calories, 12 g fat, sugars 0, protein 22g. Normally they cost 2.49 each at GNC and other places, but if you go to the Atkins website www.atkinscenter.com, you can buy a box of 15 for 27.99 and you get another box FREE (their flavor choice), with every order. At that price they are less than a buck a bar. I order from there all the time and they usually deliver within 7 days of ordering. One note, DO NOT order the Lemon chiffon bars, Now those are horrible!! hehe

I have found that most of the lo-carb bars taste like crap, but if you are willing to increase the carbs, the flavor gets better. My latest one which I actually like is Atkins Advantage Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar. Even tho it has 21 carbs, there is a note on there that says "for those watching their carbs, count only 2 grams, as all other carbs, including fiber, have a minimal impact on blood sugar". 240 calories, 19 protein and 12 grams of fat-I eat 1/2 a bar.

I like the CarbSolutions- Chocolate Capucinno bar. It has around 26 grams of protein and no sugar. It is very good and rich. My husband even likes them and he is very picky.
