Question:
I have a question about plateaus
I am 5 1/2 wks post-op. I think I might have hit a plateau. I lost about 35 lbs and now nothing. I know I'm probably not eating enough food but nothing appeals to me anymore. Yesterday, I slept all day and didn't have a thing to eat or drink until supper time. For supper I had a very small piece of lamb and some corn. I do seem to be craving carbo's. Is it true that I won't lose weight if I don't eat more? I need some knowledge here because I'm sick of everyone (friends, family, etc) watching everything I eat and giving "unwanted" advice. — Peggy D. (posted on May 14, 2002)

Awww Peggy, you poor thing! We've all been there :) You will have so many
plateaus... it'll just about drive a person nuts! You're mind, tummy,
and taste buds are adjusting to a different way of life and a different way
of eating. You haven't stopped loosing by any means, don't worry yourself
sick over it :) Right now you are an object of curiosity, everyone wants
to know how WLS is going to affect your life, your eating habits, how often
you throw-up, etc., and yes (!) there will be unsolicited advice... I
just had to grin and bear it! Just know you aren't the only one that is
going or has gone through this, we're with ya!

You will probably lose weight faster if you eat 3 to 5 very small meals a
day. Your body needs fuel to do it's work. When you don't eat it tends to
slow way down, you know, the old starvation mode! I know it is hard to do
at first and nothing tastes as good as it did pre-op. But, that will
change too. As your new pouch heals and the swelling is all gone you will
be able to eat more and you will find that you can tolerate more and more
different food items. Do try to eat at least 3 small meals a day and
experiment with different foods to find ones you like and can tolerate. Go
for high protien foods first and try to get in some vegitables and fresh
fruit, what ever your Doctor suggests. Are you taking vitamins? If not,
you should look into finding a good, daily multi-vitamin. And, really try
to get in as much water as possible. Drinking lots of water will help
flush your system of all sorts of stuff including fat. When people give
you unsolicited advise, just explain to them you are following your
Doctor's directions and follow-up with comments like "I appreciate
your concern, but I know what I am doing", etc. Good luck.

"I appreciate your concern, but I know what I am doing"
I LOVE IT!!! I wish I had thought of that when I needed it most.
