Question:
ANYONE WHO HAS HAD REVISIONS PLEASE RESPOND

I FINALLY AM SCHEDULED TO HAVE A REVISION, AND ALTHOUGH THIS IS WHAT I KNOW I WANT AND NEED----I AM COMPLETELY FREAKING OUT----I KEEP READING ABOUT THE RISKS OF DEATH AND COMPLICATIONS......I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO CHAT WITH SOMEONE WHO POSSIBLY HAS GONE THROUGH SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES....I HAD A VBG IN 95, FOUND AFTER A REVISION TO A RNY IN 2000 THAT THE VBG HAD FAILED BECAUSE THE SILASTIC RING HAD SLIPPED AND SOMETHING HAD TORE (?). NOW AFTER BEING DIAGNOSED WITH AN EXTREMELY LARGE HERNIA, THEY ALSO FOUND OUT VIA ENDOSCOPY THAT MY STOMA IS OVER TWICE THE SIZE IT SHOULD BE, AND THE SUTURES THAT WERE THERE HAVE CAME APART(?)....I HAVE STILL ABOUT 120 LBS TO LOSE AND HAVE REALLY GOTTEN SCARED.....ANY ADVICE, SUGGESTIONS, STORIES TO SHARE, WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED......THANKS    — TRICIA *. I am seeking a revision and just found out my stoma is twice the side it was originally. I am in the beginning stages of this, I wish you much success. I am also from IN.

I had a revision, 1/2000. I had older style (staples only, not transected) distal RNY 10/94 and did fine with it. Staple line disrupted and had to have pouch repaired. Worked fine. No problems. I did try to improve my chances by beefing up as much as possible nutritionally to make my tissues WANT to knit together & make my body WANT to bounce back quickly. It worked.

I also had the VBG done in 1992 and now am currently starting the process of RNY. I have not had an upper GI done yet and I am scared to death. I have regained all my weight plus 20. I have recently started (last year) being able to eat fairly med-lg portions again. I will blame my failure on myself. I returned to old habits. I was 18 originally and became cocky. Now I am 28 with 3 kids and need to save my life again. I am more dedicated and serious now. Let me know how everything turns out. Stephanie Teal, IL>
