Question:
As a result of surgery has anyone, or do you know of someone who needs a colostomy?
My Bro in law the DR scares me with this all the time. Yes I want to be thin, but the thought of walking around with a bag for the rest of my life is scary. — robyn R. (posted on May 7, 2002)

A colostomy is for the lower part of your intenstines in case they do not
work - it is to hold stool. WLS operates on the upper part of the
intestine - you have a LOT of feet between the two. i don't see why a WLS
patient would need a colostomy even if things went terribly terribly wrong.
BTW, if you ever have a choice between a colostomy or death - I think you
will find it to be an easy choice.

Your Bro-in-law the Dr. doesn't have a clue. I have never heard of anyone
having Bariatric surgery needing a colostomy after surgery. Either he is
dimwitted, or opposes surgery and is making up reasons why not to have it.
