Question:
I am 4 weeks post-op and I don't feel like eating anything.....
I am 4 wks post-op from open RNY andI just don't feel like eating anything. For the past few days I have been feeling nausea just at the smell of food. Is this something normal? — Peggy D. (posted on May 6, 2002)

VERY common!! I had no appetite and everything smelled and tasted bad.
However, you MUST force yourself to eat, otherwise you won't lose weight.
I pushed myself and ate ANYTHING my stomach could take just so I could get
to 800 calories a day. Trust me, it will pass in about a month. Mine did.
Now I wish I could go back to the no appetite feeling for about a month!!

I am one month post op and was suffering constant nausea/yickiness relating
to food in my 3rd week or so. My doc thought it might be a touch of
gastritis from "testing the limits" too soon. I dunno, but it
makes sense to me. Anyway, now I'm back to normal, find myself really only
wanting the soft proteins (cheese, tuna fish, etc.) I hope it doesn't
happen again cause, I mean, you gotta eat something, right. Good luck!

Hi...I am now 5 wks post op and beginning wks 3-4 the severe nausea began.
I was having problems eating enough and the right things, getting in
liquids, supplements etc. What worked for me was keeping a huge mug of
either hot peppermint tea (w/ a little Splenda) or SF hot chocolate all day
long. When it emptied I refilled. Now that the nausea is passing I can
get the supplements in and am drinking the protein again though I'm still
not getting enough. But during this time, my weight loss stood still and
is now moving again. I'm pretty much at or near the 64 oz liquid mark now
finally. Good luck to you.
