If insurance says they cover abdominoplasty if the pannus hangs to the "pubis" where exactly is this? Does your genital area have to be completely covered by hanging skin or what? Anybody know the answer to this, please help. — Michele :. (posted on April 24, 2002)

I believe it's the front part of your pubic bone. If you press on the
center of your lower abdomen, you should be able to feel it.

Probably the only way you'll know for sure is to try.... request insurance
approval & see how they handle it. BUT, before you go in to see your
plastic surgeon & have those pictures taken, you might want to practice
your "position" & underwear in front of a mirror. I found
that certain postures & angles really showed my pannus better than
others. And take that moment before they start snapping pics to
"arrange" yourself. It might make a difference. My genital area
was not close to being completely covered, but then different insurance
companies have different guidelines. Your doctor could probably give you a
better idea. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.
