Question:
5.5 weeks post op and suddenly food makes me nauseous
I'm been doing wonderfully since surgery, but all the sudden I can't eat anything. The last 2 days have been real h*&&. I had a couple crackers this morning and ended up throwing them back up about 1/2 hr later. What is up with this? Anybody else experience this? How long does it last? Just the idea of eating anything or even drinking water makes me sick to my stomach. — Katy B. (posted on April 12, 2002)

Hi there--I had this same thing happen to me. Any kind of food make me
nauseated--even the thought of food. It lasted for me, about 2 weeks. I am
grateful that it's over. I never thought the day would come where I would
shun food! :) I found the foods that made me the least ill and just stuck
to those..for me it was cottage cheese, crackers and string cheese. The
past week and a half has been great..only the thought of fish makes me
wanna hurl now. So this too, shall pass. Good luck and congrats on your
surgery!

I had some trouble like that at about the same time post-op. I was also
spitting up foamy bubbles. I called my doctor who said it might be a
stricture. It turned out to be one and had to be dilated. Please call
your doctor if you haven't already. You don't want to run the risk of
becomming dehydrated. Good Luck

Hi! Thank goodness I have not thrown up at all post op. However I can
absolutely relate to foods making me nauseous! I'm 7 wks post op and one
day a pouched egg sounds and tastes great, the next day, just the thought
of eating one makes me nauseous! Crazy! I wish I had an answer, but it's
good to know I'm not alone.
