Question:
Am I a good canidate for the lap band if I already have a thyroid condition?
I am seriously considering the lap band procedure. I also have a thyroid condition and was recently diagnoed with lupus of the skin. Does this make me a bad canidate for the lap band procedure now? — honeybee1247 (posted on April 9, 2002)

I'm not an expert, but I am having LapBand surgery as soon as I can get
a date. I've done monthes of research on both the RNY as well as the Band
and just feel that the band is a safer, healthier choice FOR ME!! It's not
for everyone, just as the RNY isn't. For more information than you could
ever dream of, as well as online support go to yahoo.com type in '
Bandsters ' and look around. There are several Bandster email loops, and
probably any question you could ever think to ask (including thyroid
questions)has already been answered several times if you look on their
database. There is a lady on the main Bandster email loop who has lupus
AND the band. I'm sure she would be a great resource. Good luck with
whatever surgery you chose. I can't imagine doing either surgery without
the support of others online who are going through the same things! Feel
free to email me if you need more help finding the Bandsters! Sure hope I
haven't offended anyone. Erin

I don't really know about the lupus, but I can't imagine why thyroid
troubles, either hypo or hyper, would keep anyone from having the surgery.
And please stay YOUR course. The type of surgery you have is a decision
only you and your doctor can make. Don't let anyone tell you different.

Go to the yahoo group "Bandsters" They can help you with that
question or at least put you in touch with a BAND Doctor that can help you
with that. Good luck to you! Helen
