Question:
How can I find out if there is state or federal programs to help pay for surgery?
My husbands insurance does not cover wls and I was wondering where I find information about state or federal programs? Does anyone know of people going through these programs and it being paid for or how it works. Any information would be helpful.THANKS — Laurie W. (posted on April 8, 2002)

You can go to the Vocational Rehabilation program in your state. They
frequently pay for the surgery. I'm not sure exactly how to get the number
but your best bet is to contact a social worker at your county hospital.
Good Luck!

process, i started in nov. last year, but just today i finally got
everything done and all dr.s seen and reports turned in. all i have to do
is wait for final approval. it's taking longer than i wanted but hopefully
it will be worth it. you can look up voc rehab in the blue pages of your
phone book or just call directory ass. if you have any thing you want to
ask or talk about just e-mail me [email protected]. good luck!

Voc Rehab will sometimes pay (depends on the state) if you aren't working
and are unable to work because of your weight. The plan is that if you
get surgery they can get you back into the work force. Look in your state
government pages in the phone book. If you can't find it, look for a state
ombudsman who can direct you to the right department.
