Question:
Weight loss experiences and lifestyle changes
I would love to hear experiences from others how have had WL surgery and are on the light side of the obesity scale. I am 110% set on this surgery, just waiting for my date to approach. But I do wonder what my experience, wieght loss, and lifestyle change will be like being on the lower end of the scale (current BMI 44). Take care, — Nene B. (posted on June 3, 2002)

Hi, I'm on the super lite side. I weighed 190 but I'm very short. I am 5
months out. I eat everything but in very small quantities. ( it's
impossible for me to eat more.) I love my new life, I have around 30# more
to go. E mail me if you have any questions. Good Luck

Hi,
I started at BMI 42, 270 lbs for 5'7" and I'm almost 40. I had a LAP
DS on 02/25/02 I'm now down to 202 LBS I feel excellent and my skin is
still were it should be.
I find that I made my changes gradually and things are still changing as
time passes, I'm less enclined to eat carbs, I have a little more energy
every day, some days though I pay for it and have no energy. These last
few days I even got my Humpf back (that's the thing that makes guys open
doors for you or change your tires if they go flat, I love the Humpf and
I'm glad it's back).
Most changes I feel are for the better, my bowels do give me some trouble
sometimes but that helps keep me in line. I feel great and I'm looking way
better, life is good again.
Since the operation I already quit my old job and got a new job making $800
more a month!!! I could go on and on...
Best of Luck, Diane

I had a RNY 7 months ago and my BMI was 40. Today I am 80lbs lighter and
feel wonderful. I have so much confidence now. Men REALLY pay attention. I
love it, even though I am happily married and not interested. In general,
this surgery is the best thing I ever did for myself.

I wanted to lose about 118 pounds. So far, I'm down 95 pounds in 7 months,
Lap RNY. It has made a HUGE difference on the way I'm perceived by others,
particularily men. They do pay a LOT more attention when your thinner.
I'm in a sales/service position and I also notice I get sent out to more
clients now. I guess I look more presentable.

I was 278, 5'7" and BMI 42. I had a lap RNY on 2/7/02 and I'm down 53
pounds so far. I feel SOOOOO good! No problems of any kind. My body
feels in sync with my mind, finally! My main observation is that it is
important not to get discouraged by the slower weight loss than many of us
lightweights experience. The weight still comes off!
In another 20 pounds I'll be able to shop in "normal" stores for
clothing. Additionally, I have not found the lifestye change that big a
deal so far. I eat out a lot, and it doesn't take much to fill me up. I
do make very different choices for eating these days. Fatty foods turn me
off; fruit is my favorite food now. I never would have believed that my
food preferences would change like this. Additionally, I am lucky because
I dump on sugars and high levels of fat. This has been a tremendous help
to retraining my eating preferences.
