Question:
WHAT CAN I BUY TO HELP THE INCISION HEAL GOOD?
I have a problem. Im younger no that, that matters but I will want to wear you know those skinny clothes that show my tummy maybe. Im scared that the incision will be icky. I have seen a couple profiles where the girls are wearing short shirt and or bikini's! What can I use to reduce the appearance? HELP ~ Mindi — Mindi M. (posted on April 2, 2002)

Mindi,
Hi I am almost 1 yr post and I first bought Mederma (expensive tube of
stuff) I really wasn't that satisfied with it... In Jan I had hernia repair
surg (they opened up my entire incision again) and a girl from another
group gave me the recipe for this wonderful concocion (spell?) If I can
remember correctly...the ingredients are... pure vitamin e oil... mineral
oil... pure aloe vera oil (I could only find the gel, so that's wat I
used)... and cocoa butter lotion... IN a ltr container (I just used an old
lotion bottle rinsed out really good) you put one part aloe oil to one part
mineral oil add all the vitamin e oil (it usually comes in a small bottle)
and then add some cocoa butter lotion to it... you rub this on your scar
(approx 4-6 wks post, after all the openings are healed, no scabs(I know
yuck but I don't know how else to put it...lol)) twice a day for 5 min each
time... this time around I have been able to tell a difference from the
last time (first time being when I had my rny surg, second time being my
hernia repair surg). Good luck... happy scar healing...

I used vitamin E oil and Tea Tree Oil. The scar hasn't completely
disappeared, but it is a lot less noticeable than it was in the first
couple of months after surgery. Tea Tree Oil has somewhat of a mentholated
smell to it, but it's not so bad that you'd be embarassed to put it on
before going out in public. You can find it health food shops or vitamin
stores.
