I know that Pacific Bariatrics DOES do the lap. Not all of the surgeons
do, however. My surgeon (Dr. Rumsey) only does open. Recommend you give
their office a call - I'm sure they would be more than happy to give you
the info. (Of course, there may be other factors that would come into play
- I just remember during the informational seminar, we were told that the
practice did both open and lap.) (I found PB to be very helpful - in fact,
when I requested my surgeon - I didn't know which one I wanted, I just knew
the "type" of doctor I needed to feel cared for. I explained my
personality and my needs to the staff person and she hooked me up with Dr.
Rumsey - I am so grateful!). Good luck to you. Open RNY 7/17/01.

I had open done at PB and wanted to have the lap procedure done. They
wouldnt do it because of a previous surgery scar I have (actually the same
as the open surgery scar). Two surgeons at PB do the lap, Dr Zorn and Dr
Tanaka both are excellent surgeons as far as I can tell from speaking to
friends that have had these doctors. I had Dr Tanaka, my wls scar is much
improved on the previous scar which was done by a plastic surgeon!!!!!!!

Why did they tell you they won't do it lap? There can be good reasons.
Like the previous poster mentioned, previous surgery and scar tissue can
make it harder to do lap. Also, some surgeons won't do lap for people who
are over a certain weight. If there is a lot of belly fat, it's harder to
get the lap instruments through the fat. If it's just that the surgeon
you've seen doesn't do it lap, then you might want to pick a different doc.
