from the hospital, but I havent had anything since. Whats going on? I stopped taking birth control since it came when it wasnt suppose too, and just thought i'd pick it back up after my next period, but it hasnt come! — Summersect (posted on March 25, 2002)

Hormones are stored in fat, and right now your body is losing fat, so your
hormones are confused. I would think that you should balance out soon, but
I would talk to your doctor if it doesn't to discuss options. Also, be
careful if you are using the pill for your only form of birthcontrol- some
people find that hormone-based contreseptives aren't as reliable while your
body is changing so rapidly. Again, talk to your doctor. I know this isn't
much of an answer... Good Luck!

I had my period in the hospital during my surgery (UGH) but then the next
month I had none. Then this month, at exactly the right time just as if I
had not missed a month, I had one and it was horrible. Two months worth at
once, it was the worst period I ever had. (sorry so graphic) but I was told
by both my PCP and my surgeon that it is perfectly normal to skip a period
after surgery, the stress, plus everything your body is going thru!
Everything will level out in a few months, so hang in there! God Bless you,
Love Donna

I am almost exactly in your situtation.. I am 6 weeks post-op and I had my
period the week I came home from the hospital. I was worried about it too
and I started it yesterday. I think our bodies are just adjusting. Hope
it helped.

Dear Rebecca, I had my period just a day or two before my surgery...I still
had it during my surgery. It stopped that same day though. (??). I was 7
weeks post-op before I got my next period. I've been completely regular
since. I wouldn't worry about it yet.
Good Luck,

Hi, I don't know that this is relevant as I have no idea what type of
surgery you have had, but according to my surgical/support team, oral
contraceptives are NOT effective any longer!! I had the Roux-en-Y on March
12th and this was what was "preached" to me about birth control.
I wouldn't want you to have any suprises you weren't counting on!
(especially if you thought you were actilvely preventing it) :-) Take
care, Jessi

Your body has had a Major stress. It will use what it needs to help you
recover. It isn't uncommon to stop periods or lose hair after surgery as
your body straightens out. If you don't have one next month I might go to
the OBGYN.

Whoa! Had to jump in here. Really? Is it true that the pill may not be as
effective after the surgery? Holy Cow! What would I do without you guys?
This is good to know. Thanks so much for posting this question. Does anyone
have any great suggestions on backups?

I've used an IUD since 1998 so no accidents here. My surgeon thought it was
a great form of birth control since we can't absorb the pill correctly and
with fast weight loss all sorts of hormones are released making us ladies
much more fertile....~K

I feel for you.... it will straighten out soon, if it doesn't, contact your
obgyn. I had my period two weeks before my surgery, and I started
another, really stinky period right after the surgery. I was shocked. I had
this period for about four days, and then it stopped. The following week,
it started again... It did that for about three weeks before it finally
decided to be normal again. This surgery DOES affect your whole body, I
guess!! :)
