Question:
Which is correct?
My doctor has told me to take 2 tablets of ferrous sulfate (325 mg) a day. I have been reading we don't absorb this type there is another type we should take. Why would the dr. tell me to take it if I don't absorb it? What would happen (anyone know) if I took the one? — Judy K. (posted on March 24, 2002)

My physician also told me to take the 325mg. I have been leaving messages
at the office asking for clarification of this, as I have heard we should
be using the "pure" iron which is measured in much different
dosages. If I hear anything I'll let you know!

My question was suppose to read what would happen if I took the other one?
Not the one the dr. prescribed.

Lots of experts here to give you advice. Mine is to listen to your
surgeon.

Sometimes the surgeon doesn't know. Many of them are learning as well.
There are many here on this board that do know more than some surgeons.
Michelle Curran for example, has done more research on WLS than most
surgeons. The surgeons are experts on how to do the surgery. Its great to
come here and get the experts opinion! If Michelle doesn't see your
question, I would email her personally, she seems to know a lot about
absorbtion issues.

My surgeon prescribes an iron supplement for his patients called Niferex
Forte 150. It works really well, and my insurance covers it.

Even though I heard we don't absorb that type of iron, I was on the same
thing for low iron around my 7th month. I took 3/day and it brought my iron
up just fine. When my doc put me on it, I didn't think it would work, but
gave it a chance anyway to prove the theory, but it worked.
