Question:
Losing slowly?

Tomorrow I will be five weeks post-op (started at 314)and I weigh myself once a week and today I was upset because I only lost 1.5 pounds this week. This means a total of 32.5, with only 11.5 pounds on the last three weeks. 11.5 in three weeks. Does this sound slow? I do everything I am supposed to do without fail - 60g protein, 64 oz water, 35 minutes exercise, no carbs, no snacking, no drinking with meals. Honestly I am quite obsessed with doing things "right". I haven't even cheated the tiniest bit. I had really hoped that maybe the weight loss gods would reward me and I would finally have a good five pound week. I am getting very upset and tempted to stop trying so damn hard. I am so grateful for the 32.5 gone, but fear this smaller-loss-each week trend. Anyone have a similar experience that turned around? Will my weight loss eventually pick up speed?    — PaulaM (posted on March 20, 2002)

HI, I too am a slow loser. Try not to worry so much about the number of pounds per week. Try to focus on the first 18 months. Keep up what you are doing. Maybe try a different type of exercise. Your body is just holding on to that darn weight. Don't you hate it. I know I do. We always want it fast! Try to be patient. Good luck

I'm a slow loser too. In fact you're alrealdy ahead of me even though I'm 9 weeks postop I have only lost 29 pounds 22 of which was in the first 3 weeks. Those first few weeks I was thinking WOW I'll be at goal by summer. One thing that made me feel better is I took measurements last week and found out I have lost quite a few inches so why don't you try that. I think some of us have such screwed up metabilism from years of obesity we just have to take the slow road as long as it keeps coming off and is gone forever we should be able to reach goal close to a year.Good Luck!

hi, i was 4 weeks post op on monday of this week, i went to the doctor today and weighed in at a total loss of 21 pounds!! I was beating my self up in my head, really feeling like i was going to be scolded by the nutritionist and all he did was ask how much i have lost then he looked at me sort of like he was dissapointed and he said I shouldnt be losing so fast, please eat more!!! i have never been told this in my life!! anyhow, slow is good for you it will all come off, you will see! have a great day!

Are you eating anything besides the protein? Protein has 4 calories per gram. At 60 grams of protein, that's only 240 calories. If that's all you're getting, it's not enough to lose weight on. I know that sounds contradictory, but your body has probably gone into starvation mode, hanging on to every ounce for dear life. Try getting more food in, protein first and them some veggies and then fruits. I THINK (and I'm not sure) that you need 800 calories or so to stay out of starvation mode.

Slow Loser Checking-In!! I lost an amazing 17 pounds in the first nine days, then only one pound in the next 2 weeks. I lost a total of 22 in one month, and now at 11 weeks, I've lost 37 pounds (three of which have been in the last week). It can be frustrating when compared to other losers, but I feel really healthy. I know that my body is doing what is right for it, and I have to trust it (as long as I'm doing everything I can do to help it). You are doing great. Keep up the good work. :)

Compared to many others, I'm a "slow loser" too. Down 26 pounds in 6 weeks. But I feel VERY healthy, and I'm basically okay with it. My only concern is whether this slow, but steady, loss will continue! I keep reminding myself that 4 1/2 pounds a week is over 200 per year! It really starts adding up when you think about it that way.
