Question:
How long after surgery was it until you could go swimming again?

My dr recommended that we wait 6-8 weeks to actually swim because it uses
the abdominal muscles very heavily. However he said it was perfectly fine
to do water walking and even recommended it.

i have always been a daily swimmer of 2 to 3 kms even preop
i had internal stiches so my wound was completly closed but i waited for 6
weeks for hygiene reasons and had a checkup and was given the go ahead.
i found i could only water walk at irst as i had a pulling sensation on my
lower left side when trying to stretch up to swim...
i had to water walk for a week and then i was away laughing....
i found the water to be supportive to my stoumach and i feel it has
contributed to my 30kg loss in 3 months and thats pretty good as i was
109kg to start..
good luck and happy swimming.

If your LAP, as soon as yuor incisions are healed! But take it easy at
first. Dont overdue it. Truthfully you should ask your surgeon. With you
hidden profile we cant tell anything else about you.

I asked my dr at the 1 wk post-op visit (I'm 3 1/2 wks now). Swimming and
water aerobics are the form of exercise I *LOVE* and can't wait to get
back. My dr. said to wait until 4+ weeks at least, because the chlorine
can cause a lot of redness. The way he sounded, could it turn my scars
redder permanently? I don't know. Even though my incisions are healing up
nicely, the last scab fell off, and they're pink (still seem like they're
healing though they're not scabby or open?) and now they're itchy as hell,
I'm going to wait another week and see how they look. I just don't want to
chance it, you know? I was LAP RNY on 2/25/02. Hope this helps!!!

We were told 4 weeks popst op, a pool is full of chemicals and such, why
would you want to expose your incision to that-
