Question:
Hi Everyone, I will be one month post op this Thursday.. Could I have possibly
hit a plateau already?? I only lost 1 lb in a week!!! I cant understand this. I had lost 31 pounds and now only one pound in a week? Seems kind of early for a plateau doesnt it? I have been able to tolerate everything well but have not overdone it, I drink my water and all..but dont exercise as much as i'd like. I am going to a gym to night to see if its something i'd like, do you think exercise will make that much of an improvement? I am bummed.. — Summersect (posted on March 18, 2002)

Don't worry! Easy for me to say, right? But, if you read in the library
area of the website about plateaus, many of us had them at about 3-4 weeks.
I think that your body is just saying, "Hey, what the heck is going on
here"!You will continue to lose, yet every day and every week have
their own rhythym it seems. I heard an estimate that we should expect to
lost about 20 the first month and then about 10 the next few months
(assuming they meant up to about month 6. Figure your BMI on the website
and it will estimate what you can expect to lose per month, ON AVERAGE. But
do optimize those first 6 months! Best Wishes!

I hit a plateau very early on and from what I see at this site, thats
pretty common. I weigh myself maybe once or twice a week, if that and at
least once a week, I normally see the numbers go down. Sometimes its a
little, sometimes alot. Don't worry too much if possible, it is coming
off. You lost a great amount already and your body needs to adapt. Congrats
and keep up the good work.

Rebecca, I am 5 1/2 weeks post-op and hit my first plateau at 3 weeks-it
lasted 12 days, then I dropped 2 1/2 the next day, then gained 1 back the
day after! You'll drive yourself nuts, as I do, by weighing every day. We
wonder, how can our fat bodies hold onto the fat when we are eating so
little, and exercising. Everyone loses differently and if you go to the
library of questions and answers, under plateau, you'll find that we are
not alone.
