Question:
How many days in hospital for LAP RNY patients?

Just wanting to hear back from some of you who had the Lap. RNY procedure - what is the normal stay in the hospital if without complications? What is it with complications? Thanks ahead of time.    — Lisa J. (posted on March 15, 2002)

I had my surgery in the afternoon on 2-19-2001 and was back home by 6:00 pm the very next day. I don't think that is the normal length for most people but that is how my surgeon does it.

I went in for surgery on the monday the 10 of December 2001 and was released on the 14 th so that was 5 days.I had no complications except my liver was enlarged and I think that is why I was required to spend more time and also the surgery time was longer than expected due to very excessive fat in my tummy region. He was still able ,although a lot of work to do it lapro and I have had not one problem thus far. Good luck to you.

My surgery was on Tuesday morning and I was discharged on Saturday afternoon. I had a slight problem with low potassium which delayed it a day.

I had surgery Thursday morning, and I was discharged Sunday morning (3 nights in hospital). However, I was walking around quite a bit on Saturday and some on Friday. If I hadn't been walking around, they would have kept me another day. No complications from the surgery at all.
