Question:
Can someone please explain the difference between
the sugar in fruit and the sugar in candy? I hate to sound so stupid, but I'm just learning this stuff... I am craving some strawberries, but 1 cup (which i couldnt eat) has 20 sugars. That seems high! IS there a difference? Can someone please explain for me? — Summersect (posted on March 13, 2002)

Fruit is natural sugar (fructose) and the sugar found in candy is refined
sugar. I do not tolerate refined sugar at all, but do just fine with
fruit.

I have dumped on both fruit and refined sugars. I always figure if it will
make me dump, it will make me fat again. Worse, if I can eat it and NOT
dump, it will make me fat QUICKER, cuz it will sneak up on me. I use fruit
with caution, and never ever real juices.

another way to explain the difference would be like this: natural sugar is
a good carb & refined sugar is a bad carb. my dr insists on well
balanced meals & tells us upon hospital discharge to eat whatever we
want as long as its pureed. i do eat fruit (i am a big big fruit lover) but
i make sure to peel the skins off apples & pears, & i am very
careful not to eat fruit if i have had a glass of real fruit juice that
day. & vice versa. even tho the sugars in fruits is natural, they still
have the ability to stop or slow ur weight loss.
