Question:
14lbs in 5 days?
I had my laparoscopic gastric bypass RNY 5 days ago. I just had to step on the scale this morning. I've lost 14lbs in 5 days. I started out at 289lbs with a 5'4 frame. I was just wondering is this good? Am I losing really fast or am I considered a slow loser? How have other people done this soon post-op? — Angie B. (posted on March 12, 2002)

Most of the weight you lose at first is water weight, so don't worry. I
lost 60 lbs. in 6 weeks and thought I was going to melt away into nothing,
but the quick loss stopped soon enough, and now I have trouble losing 1
lb./wk. Enjoy it while you have it!

I was wondering this myself. I have lost 20 lbs in 12 days post lap rny.
start wt 255, 5ft3. I got a call this am from someone in support group and
she suggested the graph of typical wt loss here on this site. It is on the
page with the bmi calculator. I looked it up and i am a little ahead of the
game. However, i have never heard of anyone losing too fast at this stage.
I think it is possible to lose too fast many months down the road, but i
have been told to maximize my wt. loss during my window of opportunity. I
am following my eating plan to the letter and taking the vitamins I am
prescribed. I feel great and know that the loss will slow down all to soon.
good luck.

You sure sound like a fast loser to me! I lost 13 pounds my first 13 days,
and a total of 22 pounds in 5 weeks. I'm happy, but I think most would
consider my weight loss pattern slow. Your's sounds terrific ! Enjoy !
