Question:
I am exactly one week post op and have not yet had
a bowl movement. Is this bad? I have started to feel like I could probobly go, but I cant.. Is it too soon to start taking a laxative or something? What do you suggest? is this normal? — [Anonymous] (posted on February 28, 2002)

If you feel like you have to go but can't, try a glycerin suppository. Very
simple and no medication to have to swallow. They work wonderfully for
problems such as yours.(just a little lubrication and stimulation will
sometimes do the trick!) They're inexpensive, gentle and easy.

I was in the hospital for 7 days, came home and it was at least 3 more
before my first. I guess i was just so cleaned out, plus not eating
anything. I did nto feel the need to go until I went, not constipated, just
did not need to go. How do you feel? If you are not feeling constipated you
may want to wait it out a few more days.

I am four days post op and they let me come home today without having one.
I am sensitive to pain medication and that does cause some constipation.
They told me to drink Milk of Mag and try and try again. That is what I am
doing. I wish you luck

I sure would not take a laxative yet without your surgeons ok. I was day 10
until I had one.
