Question:
I use to love eggs now I cant stomach them

I'M 6 WEEKS POST-OP. I TRIED TO EAT ONE TODAY BUT IT JUST MADE ME QUISY THINKING ABOUT IT. WHY IS THIS? WILL IT PASS?    — Janice P. (posted on February 20, 2002)

I used to love eggs. For some reason I have not been able to stomach them either. They tried to give them to me in the hosptial too. I HAD to eat food before they would discharge me. I had them bring me something else. I am 3mo. post and still cannot even think about eggs. Don't know why, but my tastes have changed dramatically. But I like healthier foods now, so I really like it. It may change, who knows?

I am close to 4 months post op and I can't eat eggs any more, either. It is not only that the taste turns me off - I can't tolerate them in my pouch. They either come back up or cause me pain for 1/2 hour. Many people say that after 6 months you can begin to tolerate a lot more foods.

I know exactly how your feeling. Eggs, scrambled made me sick about 2 months ago. I have not dared to try them again. I have heard that Poached eggs are easy to tolerate...BUT like I said have not dared to try them yet.

I had scrambled about 2 weeks postop, and threw up almost immediatley. I am 9 weeks post now, and can eat Poached, hard boiled, and over-easy. Although Over-easy kind of made me a little quesy because of the yolk. I still have not tried scrambled. too afraid. Poached seems to be the best way for me to get an egg in.

I am 2 mos post op and have had trouble with scrambled eggs since the first time I tried them...my mom, who also had WLS a long time ago, gave me a helpful tip. Make an omlette(sp?) I just tried one today, because my Mom was here visiting from NY and she made me a ham, cheese and spinach omlette and with all the other ingredients...especially the ham and spinach, the eggs chewed up and went down well. Hard boiled I have never had a problem with, but I get full on one small egg and nothing else.

big egg lover here! now i can hardly tolerate them. but, i discovered what karen's mom told her. if hubby has an omelet & it has cheese &/or crumbled bacon or diced ham in it, it goes down very well & gives me no problem. cant figure it out. maybe the egg is not as dry this way? the other morning at ihop our favorite waitress had the cook scramble my eggs with cheese & i was fine with it. i could have kissed her.

I had the same problem with eggs at first. But now I eat them nearly every day. It took about 4-6 months before I could think of an egg. It is a shame too because they are high in protein. But give it some time and try them again occassionally.

I've always had a sensitivity to eggs but post op, whew! It was horrible! I've since discovered the joys of egg substitutes like Egg Beaters etc. They have different brands but all in all, they've been pretty easy on my tummy & I personally think they cook up better than regular eggs. If you like sunny side up or eggs over easy, forget about it cuz these things come in one form--scrambled.
