Question:
Buying small clothes PRE-OP: am I setting myself up for failure or just optimistic?

Ok, this is kinda silly. There is this hoodie I want really really bad. I have given the look of death to my friend who has it, and any other girl I happen to see who has it. =} The thing about this hoodie is that it is from Cosmic Debris, which only carries small size clothes, and they will only be carrying it for another month!!! The largest size they have is a Large, which is 40 inches around the bust, size 13/14. Now, I have no idea what size I will end up, but I plan on working very hard. My question is what size do you guys think I could end up, if I reach around my ideal weight? I am 5'10", 305lbs., between sizes 24/26 at Lane Bryant, and have actually been proven to have a large bone frame (no, not just an excuse for being fat). I want this hoodie so bad, but would it be a bad idea to buy it now in the hopes that I will eventually fit into it? Size 13/14 is my ultimate goal, but I don't really know at what weight I will be able to wear that size, if I will at all. Does anyone know what weight I would have to be to fit into it with my dimensions? Would getting this hoodie be a bad idea, just setting myself up for failure and dissapointment? — Jennifer Y. I say buy it! If by chance you don't get into it, sell it on e-bay. I think you'll be in it though! Good Luck!

I just bought my DREAM BATHING suit, which only went as high as a 16. It's a tankini and really cute. Anyway, I have a family reunion in Florida in April and hope to wear it then. I think things like that are good motivation (I reward myself with clothes now, not food). I wouldn't go nuts though, just because you change sizes so quickly after surgery. Also, I think its hard for us to remember that finding the PERFECT thing won't be such an issue when we are smaller. :) Go for it! Meredith

BUY IT!!!! I wouldn't suggest that someone go out and buy an entire new wardrobe in a much smaller size, but one item that you can't get in the future is fine! Someone once gave me an excellent piece of advice: Don't sweat the small stuff and everything IS SMALL STUFF!!!!

I also say buy it although I have no idea what a hoodie is. Most likely, after losing 100 pounds you will be in a size 13 or so because you are tall. What the heck..it's motivation right?

This is the original poster. Sorry if I confused anyone- a hoodie is just a sweater or sweatshirt with a hood. This is the absolute CUTEST hoodie, it is pink fleece with kitty ears, and matching pink kitty mittens. It is like $50.00 plus shipping, but I think I will get it anyway. Good idea from the poster who said I could sell it on EBay. I think I will get it. It certainly will be motivation. If anyone wants to see it, you can go do CosmicDebris.com, then go under Emily/wardrobe and look at the pink kitty hoodie.

Buy it. I saw a pair of slacks 2 sizes smaller than I was wearing at the time on a clearance rack at Wal-Mart for $3. I bought them thinking I would be able to wear them a couple of months later. I had NEVER bought slacks without trying them on first because of my body shape. Imagine my delight and surprise when I got home, tried them on and they fit perfectly. I'm just sorry they didn't have more of them in a variety of colors.
I think you will be surprised at how soon you may be able to wear it. I'm 5 months post-op, have dropped 4 sizes (they're loose, next purchase will be another size smaller) and my loss is one of the slowest around.
Enjoy your hoodie!!!

I'm a similar height and build as you, and I say buy it. A size 14 is totally do-able. I went from a size 36 to a size 18 (so far), and I have no doubt I can reach a 14 by the end of summer.

I'm with the other posters. GET IT! I bought two used jackets whose colors I really loved shortly post op. I took a picture of myself in each of them a day pre op. Then also tooks pictures again every three months. Anyway, seven months post op, I can wear them! I'm VERY glad I bought them AND that I took the pictures. You can see the jacket pictures at: http://dansgastricbypass.homestead.com/DansJourney.html However although I compressed the web site, I think it still takes ages to load. So be patient if you want to see them. But do buy your sweater! You'll almost certainly be glad you did. We need something to look forward to during the first (unpleasant) couple months post op. :)

Do it!! I agree!! I found a steal of a deal on a Nine West, belted, black leather jacket at Macys.com a month ago. I ordered an extra large. Regular price was over $500, I got it for $60. SOund insane? LOL It felt insane at the time, but I am so happy I did it now! I've been on a deit and exercise program, finally received my referral from my PCP, and have a consult with a surgeon scheduled. If everything goes as planned, I'll have my surgery in late spring and will have lost enough weight by Christmastime to wear that great jacket!

It's only one article; so, if buying it will make you feel better or give you a goal to shoot for...buy it. When I was losing I bought an outfit that was two sizes too small...I'd try it on every week. When I finally could wear that outfit, I felt on top of the world!!! Then I'd buy another...two sizes to small....and begin all over again. My last such purchase was a pair of white jeans....size 14. That was a year ago...they are still in my closet....(lol).
