Me!! Since pretty much my 3rd week. I started it all drinking Hot tea,
Lots of it to soothe my stomach. Now I drink Ice coffee daily, usually one
Med from Dunkin. I do drink about 3-4 Liters of water a day too. My
weight loss hass been great.

Hi Anne, I am almost 7 months post op and have droppped over 120 lbs, with
70 more to go and drink caffiene daily, nowhere near the amount that I used
to before WLS though. I do drink Liptons ice tea, with nutra sweet almost
everyday, and occasionally have a coffee, and sometimes a packet of green
tea in hot water. It is recommended to give up caffiene becuase it is a
diuretic, hope I spelled that right, and also it supposed to make you
hungry. I do drink enough water to compensate, and so far any hunger
hasn't been caused by caffeine. JMO :)

It really isn't the amount of caffine consumed, but the amount of
additional water you need WITH the caffine to counteract the effects of it.
The rule of thumb is to drink twice in water what you did of the cafinated
beverage (so if you drink an 8oz. coffee, you will need to drink an EXTRA
16oz of water that day, on top of the 64oz you are supposed to get in). At
least this is what my doc said. He said it was better for me to choose
decaf if possible.

Hi, I am 1 pound from goal weight and drink coffee daily. I have two cups
right away in the morning, then maybe one cup of regular mid-afternoon. I
have switched to decaf if I want any more throughout the day, and I do have
to drink extra water to compensate as the other posters have said. It has
not hindered my loss at all as I am 9 months post op and have lost 110
pounds! Just remember, moderation is the key. Oh, 2 coffee tips, Land
O'Lakes Fat Free 1/2&1/2 is really good, and for decaf which sometimes
tastes more bitter than regular, I put cinnamin in the coffee grinds before
brewing and it is YUMMY! Take care

i have been drinking regular coffee since my discharge from the hosp. of
course in the beginning it was small sips at a time but now at 8 weeks out
i can drink almost a whole cup, but i do have to reheat it a few times lol.
my weight loss has been great...42 lbs so far. i made it a point to ask my
surgeon about drinking coffee as i was literally raised on it. he has no
problem with his patients drinking coffee/milk etc as long as they keep
their liquid intake to the required 64 oz. in his 30 years he has never
seen scientific evidence that coffee is bad for us.

Hi there. I still drink diet coke, I still guzzle it the way I did pre-op
and have been since about six weeks out. I told my surgeon and he didn't
appear too concerened. I seem to be loosing weight just fine, however I am
having a difficult time sleeping at night lately. I never really noticed
caffeine affecting my sleep before so I'm wondering now that I'm about
90lbs less if it could be wreaking havoc with my system. I may switch to
caffeine free for awhile to see if it's really the culprit. Good luck! -Kim

My doctor told me to wait two weeks after surgery & to get in 64 ounces
of liquid daily until then before starting on caffiene again. I love tea,
and coffee once in awhile, but really don't care for decaf. I drink it
(with caffiene) all the time and am still loosing. I'm only 27# to goal
and am slowing down now, but lost 9# just last month :)

At 3-1/2 months post op, I drink 2 cups of coffee every morning. I have to
have it, that's part of my therapy as the one thing I refuse to deny myself
of. I'm down about 60 so far. I have it w/real half and half and
splenda.

Hi: I have been a HUGE tea drinker before & after my surgery. I drink
about 6 cups of tea per day. I make my tea very weak(but still has that tea
flavor) and mix it half with low fat milk for my protein. I can't drink
milk by itself but with my tea it's ok. My dr says my tea and milk is just
fine. I am 6 mos post op and down #115. Only 20# from goal. My attitude
is if it's sitting on my stomach well, go for it. I have so many foods and
beverages that don't go well with my tummy. So for now I am throwing all
of the caffeine crap out the window...we're all individual and what works
for one might not work for another. Also, they say that the caffeine is a
diuretic and not good for us. I only tinkle 2 times per day, so my body
must be well watered :)

I had a real hard time finding something to drink after my WLS. Water was
ok, but very blah after a while. Soda pops taste awful to me now. I
finally discovered diet Neatea with lemon and LOVE IT...but it's not decaf.
It's hard to find something to drink besides water when you are out and
about. But I find that I still loose fine even though I'm drinking mostly
tea. I'm sure it's better to drink water to try to balance it out, but as
far as stopping your weight loss...I think it just depends on your own
body. I have lost 100 lbs in 6 mos...so I'm not going to worry about it
right now. I'll deal with the food issues and as far as drink, as long as
they are calorie free and I'm still loosing, then I'm not going to worry
about it.
