Question:
What's the story on caffeine regarding our 64 oz. of liquid?
At our support group last night we were told that we were not to count any liquids we drank with caffeine toward our daily 64 ozs. Doesn't count at all? I know caffeine is a diuretic and would hasten liquids leaving our bodies, but do most of you drink 64 oz. in addition to any coffee or tea you might have? — [Anonymous] (posted on February 14, 2002)

Liquids in general count toward your fluid intake-CAFFEINE FREE that is.
Herbal teas are decaf. and decaf. coffee, broths, etc. You are right,
caffeine is a diuretic. You usually have to drink more to make up for
caffeine. Try to steer clear of the caffeine. I have regular coffee only
once in a blue moon. Usually it's decaf. coffee and herbal teas. Happy
losing :)

We were told that only half of a caffeine drink counts as
"water".
So, my 10oz. coffee this morining counted as 5oz. of water. Sometimes
wonder if any two of us were told the same thing! (lol)

My doc, nutritionist and dietician said NO CAFFINE AT ALL because it
increases your appetite. It was hard, but I'm caffine free after 37 years
of Pepsi!!

Hi! Caffiene can dehydrate you, which tends to be why you dont count it
toward the 64 ounces! (in addition to the other reasons posted!)
thanks and best of luck

I too was told that any drink with Caffeine counts as half and it is also
stated that way in all the literature I have read. Although caffeine is
not recommended and you should limit or eliminate it you can count half the
serving as part of your 64oz.
