Hello. You could try to find a clinic that has what is called a sliding fee
scale. If you have a certain income level, they might even pay for most of
the evaluation. I don't know who runs the mental health programs in your
state, but I would call them and find out. It is worth a try. I think it
is awful that these insurance companies require a psych evaluation but then
won't cover it.
Good Luck

I have heard of very few insurances that will pay for this... I have had
several friends have this surgery and they all had to pay for the psych
eval themselves.... I was fortunate enough to not have to have one. My
friend in Atlanta said her psych eval wass $250. Good luck to you! I
agree with the one poster that said to ask the clinician for a reduced fee
as you are self pay..... this is a very common practice. Good luck to
you!!!

My insurance requires the psych evaluation, so they cover it.
Is this something your surgeon requires?

My insurance denied coverage for the psych eval initially. AFTER they
approved the surgery, they went back and reviewed the REQUIRED psych exam
and then approved payment. This is normal standard of operation for them
