Question:
I have seen posts that say with a RNY that we don't absorb fats but do sugar ...
why would we not absorb all fat but absorb all sugar? I had 200cm bypassed and even though it's only been a few weeks since surgery I don't appear to get sick on anything I've tried so far. — Candace F. (posted on February 10, 2002)

we do absorb fats..we just don't absorb as much..same with all nutrients
etc...your fats and nutrients are absorbed into your body as it moves
through the intestine..since there is less intestine..less is absorbed.
sugars are absorbed very fast...so we end up with most of it.

You might have heard something about DS and mistook it for something about
RNY. In BPD/DS, bile is diverted until the last 100cm of small intestine
or so. Only at that point is fat absorbed.

My understanding is that we do absorb *some* fats, but not
enough to contribute to weight gain. Sugars are metablolized
differently and we absorb it all. Bummer!
