Question:
Can I puree anything?
My doctor will have me on pureed diet by the time I am released from the hospital. Can I puree anything? For example - tonight, I had some chicken with broccoli on the side. There were some leftovers, so I threw a little chicken and a little brocc (al little water too) into the blender, pureed it up and put it in the freezer for when I come home. Now, obviously I'm going to avoid high fat, high carbs, period. But, aside from that, can I throw regular dinner foods in the blender and eat them? — [Anonymous] (posted on February 3, 2002)

Hi! I'm nearly 8 weeks post-op and on regular food, but during the puree
stage, my doc said if I could get it the consistency where I could get it
through a straw, I could eat it, lol! And I pureed some strange things! I
think the most memorable was chili and cornbread, lol! But that was just
one time. Most of the time I stuck with the good stuff ;-)

My husband was involved in a serious accident several years ago--the left
side of his face was shashed by a 3 ton cable so his jaw was wired shut
forever!!! He could only drink his food and he got really tired of yoghurt
so he started experimenting with chili, other soups, stews etc...he added
broth or milk to everything and it worked for him! I do not recomment
blending chili as the texture and appearance is the most vile thing that I
had ever seen! If you can handle the appearance you can pretty much puree
anything!

Here's a confession for you... I got so tired of bland pureed foods that
about 3 weeks post op, I pureed a Taco Bell Burrito Supreme. It took me
about 3 meals to eat it all, but it was delish!

It sounds like you are on the right track with your chicken and broccoli.
You can add a little water, broth or milk to regular food and make puree.
There is a gal in my support group who threw ANYTHING in the blender -
lasagna, burittos, steak, etc. and ate it. The strangest thing I did was a
chili dog (minus the bun). It looked so gross I had to put a napkin over it
between bites, but boy did it taste good! And before anyone yells at me for
eating a hot dog you need to know I had about 1/4 of one and it took 2 days
to eat it!

HAHAHA I had to laugh when I read this. I asked my nutritionist the same
thing "So, I can puree ANYTHING?" I said. She said
"yes." ..... "DING DONGS", I asked.... She said no.

Yes, you can puree anything. However, the question here is whether or not
you can eat anything that is pureed. And the answer to that is no.
