Question:
Anyone out there who had an ulcer post op.
Hi! I am now eight weeks post op and I think I have developed an ulcer. I am not tolerating anything to eat again and I have a constant pain and burning in my tummy. I have called my doctor and he didn't seem to concerned about it. If you had an ulcer post op: 1. what did it feel like, 2. how were you diagnosed, and 3. how was it treated. I can't think of much else it could be. Ideas, suggestions? Amy — purdue_1993 (posted on January 23, 2002)

I feel your pain. I did great right after surgery... then about 5 or 6
weeks later, I couldn't keep anything down. Everything I looked at made me
sick to my stomach. Smells made me sick too. When I got to the point that
I couldn't keep water down, not even my own saliva, I went to get scoped.
They found a marginal ulcer. They put me on Prilosec and Carafate and
within 2-3 days, I was doing much MUCH better. My suggestion to you is to
go get scoped as soon as possible. If it is a marginal ulcer, it can be
treated quickly and you will be better in no time! This may make you feel
a bit better too... My surgeon told me that the ulcer was more likely from
H.Pylori bacteria and not stomach acid, and once it cleared up, I shouldn't
have to worry about ulcers anymore. Keep the faith. It does get better!
Good luck, and email me if you want to discuss this further!
