I don't know specifically about Lansing..BUT do try and go to and
appointment with Bariatric Treatment Center....I am going to the one in
Holland, but I think there is one in Lansing as well...check and see. Find
someone on your list of providers, depending on your type of
insurance....Make phone calls!!!! The only way to find out is to call
them.

If you want to travel a bit, there is a surgeon in Royal Oak (Dr. Kevin
Krause - 248-551-8180) that is really good, and I know a doc that will
refer you in a heart beat!! Dr. Krause does Lap RNY, and he is awesome! :)

I live in the Lansing area, My pcp is Dr.Anthony Chebli
#517-622-2788. My surgeon was Dr.Scholten in Grand Rapids.
I like both of them very much. I didn't have any complications
with surgery, I am 6 weeks post-op.

My former PCP did not want to give me a referral either, as a matter of
fact, he down right refused to give me a referral, and I was almost in
tears when I left his office. I was totally depressed for days after this
confrontation with my former PCP. I thought that he was the best doctor
that I ever had until he would not give me that referral. After I asked
him for the referral, he started giving me the brush off and stopped
returning my calls. This made me angry as well as depressed and I fixed
him. I decided to change doctors and leave his medical group altogether.
I was depressed over the xmas holidays because of this also. After talking
to other WLS patients and venting to others, I finally decided to change
PCP doctors immediately, and sign a release form for my medical records to
be released to me. I searched for another PCP and changed twice in 2
weeks. After all of that work, I decided to go with a PCP in the same
network as the Surgeon. Now I have a new PCP and a surgeon. The new PCP
gave me a referral in the first visit whereas it took me 4 months to
convince my former PCP just to give me tests for my comorbidities. He was
a real but head! All this to say, don't be discouraged and don't give up.
I have Humana HMO and I have an appointment to see the surgeon on 01/17/02.
I am looking forward to this. keep me posted.
