Question:
Doctor's already re-scheduled me twice due to problems in their office
I think my third surgery date is going to be cancelled also and rescheduled. What's the most number of times anyone has been cancelled and rescheduled by their surgeon after getting a date? I'm beginning to wonder if this is the norm or not. — Kathy J. (posted on January 11, 2002)

I can't really answer you question, but I can tell you this. Having my
surgery cancelled once would tick me off, but twice would really do it. I
feel that your surgeon's office is being very inconsiderate to your own
personal feelings as there is alot of emotional issues you are dealing with
in preparing yourself for this surgery. I would definitely tell them how
it is affecting you. Have you checked into this surgeon's reputation,
etc.? That doesn't sound very professional to me, cancelling like that. I
would make it clear that it is mentally difficult on your part having to
prepare and then being let down time after time.

I wouldn't say this is "normal" but we rescheduled my surgery
three times before the surgeon actually done it. But it's done now and I
couldn't have re-done my process and seen another surgeon and still got it
at as quick so in the long run it was just worth it to stay with my
original surgeon..

You know how we overweight ladies are usually considered very passive and
anxious to please? I hope you will consider debunking that stereotype.
Rescheduling for the thrid time is unacceptable. It would be OK to
politely but firmly let your doctors office know that such a possibility is
causing you extreme, undo stress and you are losing confidence in them.
Also let it be known before any such action is to be taken that you must
speak to the doctor about it because of the incredible stress this is
causing you.
Ask them to be very honest about it with you. Why are they doing this? Is
it because of the surgeons concerns about your health and your body's
ability to handle an operation? If so, you want to know. This is too
important for any of us that want this surgery and I've had to force myself
to be forward and ask questions I would normally dare not ask for fear of
people thinking me confrontational.
Hang in there, sister! Good health and big hugs to you on your journey! :)

Katherine, I do not know if it is the norm but it happened to me. My
surgery was scheduled for 11/9/01, then postponed to 12/19/01, then to
1/7/01. It was so horrible, I was begining to think that I was not meant
to have the surgery. I made myself sick wondering if I was going to get
"the call" again. I still was not completely convinced until
they were actually wheeling me into surgery. I found out later that My
surgeon(who is not a bariatric surgeon only) does this procedure three days
a week, four a day and has a waiting list a year long. At least he wasn't
sunning himself in Tahiti. :o) Hang in there it will happen for you. I do
agree with the previous poster that you should let them know you are
extremely upset and want to become a priority. Good Luck!
