Question:
My doc said he was removing 100cm plus 60cm for the Roux...
I don't get it! I thought I knew a lot, but when I sent him an email asking how much intestines does he bypass, his response was "generally BMI + 50 which would put you at approx. 100cm plus 60cm for the Roux". So, am I looking at having 100cm bypassed, or 160cm? Can someone explain?? 16 DAYS TO GO! ~Paula :) — PaulaM (posted on January 8, 2002)

I believe that means you will have 160 cm total bypass, which would be
considered proximal. I am a proximal with approx a 40 cm Roux limb and 150
long limb. With a combined total of 190 cm bypassed. I'm constantly trying
to understand this also...so If I'm not correct, please someone set me
straight! lol. -Kim 7/17 open RNY -80

I also wanted to add that where the roux limb and long limb meet is called
the common channel or common limb...this is where absorption happens. The
longer your common channel the less malabsorption you have. Hope this
helps...clear as mud...I KNOW!!! lol

I have to agree... sounds like 160 cm is being bypassed. I had 150 cm
bypassed according my surgeon who said this is the amount he does on all of
his patients except in rare instances.

I had to go review my stats again...mine is 30-40cm roux limb and 100-120cm
long limb with a combined total of 130 -160 cm bypassed...I thought 190
seemed high. -Kim
