I bought a treadmill from Wal-Mart a year ago for about $130. I'm 280 and
it holds real well. And it's a power one. Its a Weslo Cadence ex 12. And it
measures your speed, calories burned, and so on. Well it's good, except
mine is collecting dust. We have a small house, and right now our christmas
tree is in the way! LOL! Well I hoped I helped some. Goodluck!

I have a Proform. These are really top of the line, so you'll pay for
them. I think ours was around $600. But...it's good quality. They book
says you shouldn't use if over 300 pounds, but I was using this sucker when
I was over 400 pounds with no problems. It's got a powerful motor. And
it's got all the whistles. The motor incline, pre-programmed workouts for
when your up for it, a pulse monitor so you can be sure you're at top fat
burning mode as opposed to purely aerobic exercise (and the book that comes
with it tells you your goal). I think any of the Proform treadmills are
good, but the ones with handgrip pulse monitors are better than the thumb
monitors. I have to say its well worth the money. Best of luck.

Sears. Inexpensive. Simple. Works fine. Get the extended warrantee; covers
house calls. Started at 348 pounds.

I bought a treadmill from Sears (Proform) and after I got it home, realized
it had a limit of 300 pounds. I called Sears and no one would tell me what
would happen if it was used by anyone over 300 pounds. They kept telling
me the warranty would not be honored, but that's all.
So, I called a good friend who has run health clubs, is a personal trainer,
etc. He told me that it would not break as I was walking on it or do
anything else drastic. Just said that the motor might wear out sooner. If
you're on your way down anyway, I don't think I'd worry about it. Better
the treadmill in my home (at this time of year) than the possibly icy
sidewalks outside.

Not long ago consumer reports ran a article on treadmills, you might check
your local library. It was complete with info on problems with durability.

I bought my treadmill from Sears about a year ago. My husband and I went
into the store together and I stood on several styles, the sales guy knew
it was for me and sold me a discontinued style for about $300.00. The only
thing the guy told us to watch for is how we use the thing, he said this
was a walking not a running style. I am just under 400 now and weighed
more then, I have had no problems.
