Question:
When I eat more I lose
Is this my imagination, it seems like when I eat more like fatty foods ie:pizza, melted cheese toast, etc I seem to lose weight but when I don't seem to have an appetit and only drink my protein and maybe a salad for dinner I don't seem to drop a pound, I always thought that taken in less calories make you lose weight. Please give me some advice, RNY 3 1/2 mos post- op 65 pounds lost. Thank you — blank first name B. (posted on December 19, 2001)

The reason is you are eating more calories. Have you ever heard "you
have to eat to lose weight"? Well it is true. There is a set level
that you body does not want to go below. If you go below this level, your
body thinks it is in starvation mode and will hold on to everything. If
you are above this level, then the body will release. Kinda strange
concept, but hey if it works! Great loss and keep it up.

Did you read up about this in the library section? There are many questions
and answers from patients who have found that they need to increase their
calories up to about 1,000 a day to lose weight. Go to "Library"
and search for calories, or look under post-op diet.

....ditto to what the others said. If your body doesn't get enough
calories (it's different for each individual), it goes into
"starvation
mode" and you won't lose any weight. They key is to eat enough of the
"good"
foods. At this stage pizza and toast aren't a problem.....but....when you
get
to the point where you really have to "work" for every pound you
lose....pizza,
toast and other carbs/starches will be counter productive.

This happens to me as well! I am at 5 weeks post-op. It seems very strange
that I can eat cheese pizza and it actually helps me lose weight! It's hard
to get over the old "guilt" feelings associated with certain
foods.
