Question:
post-op scar pictures?

Hi fellow AMOS friends! I have been looking for post-op scar pictures...debating on the lap or open, leaning toward the open becaue it is what my surgeon is most comfortable with. Would those of you who have pictures posted of your incision and scar be kind enough to respond with your web-address for those of us who hope to have a scar of our own soon? I hope to be able to post my own in the near future. Thank you all!    — VintageChick (posted on December 5, 2001)

May I suggest you visit: http://freewill.tzo.com/~jamie/ and http://hometown.aol.com/mommy4alex/journey.html I had open and I can say that once the post-op pain fades, i wasn't in much pain and my scar is really nothing. It's only 4 inches long

Mine is on my website at http://dewdropdeb.tripod.com, but keep in mind that was three days after surgery. I just got the steri strips off and can't believe how thin and normal it looks. Kelley on http://www.suchaprettyface.net also has pictures throughout the healing process, but I think her site is down now. Also try http://mygastricbypass.com Good Luck!

Selecting a open leaves you at a 30% risk of getting a hernia which will require another surgery. This is why I selected LAP. LAP has a nearly NO chance of a hernia since they dont cut your abdominal muscles.

Just to respond to Bob's post. I had an open DS and my surgeon did not cut through my abdominal muscles, he cut right where they join and just moved the abdominal muscles to the side and they were held with retractors. So while I do have a vertical incision, my doctor never actually cut through muscle so I'm less likely to have a hernia.
