Question:
I am scheduled for my initial consultation on December 4th. What questions shall I ask?
I'm very nervous. In the last few months I have learned so much about the surgery. Does anyone know of some questions I should ask. I try to think but I get so nervous that my mind just draws a blank. Please help! — Angie B. (posted on November 29, 2001)

How many LAPs your surgeon has done, How many deaths in how many patients,
asked this way is more informative than a percentage, later on right before
surgery this will be your most important question. DEFINETELY ATTEND
SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS. Incidently the BMI rule for LAP is not a hard fast
rule, it depends on where you carry your weight and your surgeons comfort,
tools, and experience. My wife is a pre op with a BMI of nearly 60 and is
getting a lap, although we have been told there is a 5 to 10% chance she
will be converted to a open. Surgery is the BEST thing I ever did for
myself, one day you will be saying the same thing.
