Were you drinking liquids with your food? That can allow you to eat a lot more. I do it sometimes to get in more protein....

Hi, It is very important to find out if you are transected or not. Ask your doctor. The reason is if you are not transected you have to be aware that you can disrupt at anytime. Maybe you won't beause some never do but without the tight seal formed with transection, the two edges of the pouch and stomach can come "undone". Transection is the only way to go. I know because I had to have a revision to transection 6 wks ago. I had my original surgery a year ago and disrupte at 6 mos post op. I could eat a lot more. Probably you just were having one of those days when you could eat more but if you start to regain and this continues, ask for an upper GI to see if all is ok. This problem is common and most people don't even know they disrupted. It is very fixable! I think truth is power and if we are brave enough to face the truth, then we can be helped. I would bet you are fine though but make sure if this continues. I had no other symptoms of disruption. I didn't gain any wt back but I could eat a lot more. Not like I could eat before first surgery but compared to my twin sister who WAS transected, when I was disrupted I could eat about twice what she ate. I thought it was just because I was 6 mos out but now that I am transected, I can see a big difference in what I can eat. Now I eat about 3 oz. Good luck and by the way, if you do find disruption, don't blame yourself! It is a mechanical problem and you did not overeat your pouch and make it disrupt. My upper GI showed the pouch was still very tiny. It hadn't stretched at all.

Call your doctor today to find out if you were transected. You'll know that you have a disruption if you weren't transected and begin to gain back weight fairly rapidly. You didn't say how long it took you to eat this pizza. At 5 months, I had a regular sized piece yesterday and had 2 regular bites then just at the toppings off, leaving most of the bread. Were these square pieces? The triangular pizza hut kind? Was it thin crust? Better yet, how much of this could you have eaten pre-surgery. All of these things are factors. Try to stay away from foods that trigger your overeating (OK I know it's hard but don't screw up this chance you gave yourself). Good luck and God Bless!

I think you need to get counseling. Sounds like there are more issues there. You continue to eat even after you said you felt full. Perhaps join OA or Weight Watchers. You sound like you need support TODAY.

The fact that you got full probably could mean that you are not disrupted. The fact that you continued to eat after you felt full is not healthy or wise. Telling you to get councelling may sound trite, but there's nothing else for us to say for you. Nip the grazing/overeating in the bud now or risk stretching your pouch and ruining your tool. Much luck

No offense, but previous poster, you cannot judge a person and say they need counseling! What an insult! This person could have a failure of her staple line and even though she feels full, she could eat more. Perhaps she was testing to see how much she could eat. One time like this does not mean she needs counseling. Wow, talk about kicking a person when she is down. Please talk to your doctor and be relieved of your worrying. Amateur analysis is not what you need for support. You will be fine.

One pig-out session does not mean you need counselling....heavens... it it did, we would ALL need a therpist. I know that some days I can eat much more than I can eat on other days...I don't know why. If you'd had a disruption, I do believe you would be able to eat whole lot more all the time...not just on one occassion. Do you find that since the pizza incident you don't fill up? If that's the case, see your doc. But, if your appetite is as it was before the notorious pizza pig-out..relax...you're fine. We're human after all.

Don't worry sweetie. You don't need counseling. None of us got to be morbidly obese by stopping eating when we were full, right? Lots of women eat more when they're having their periods, so that may be the reason. Also, maybe you were drinking water too? Some days I find I can eat a lot more than the previous day. They'll always be times when you'll revert to "recreational" eating or eating a lot by habit. Knowing that you're doing it though is the first step in stopping this type of eating. We've all been there!! Good luck!!!

Yes you ate a lot, but if this is just a one time thing I DOUBT you need counseling. To suggest such a thing over one incidence is ridiculous. Hello People??? I think all of us have ate something wrong or too much of something. I wouldn't believe someone if they said they didn't. If your concerned about having a disruption, put your mind at ease and call your doc asap. I know from personal experience that when I get my PMS thing every month, I can eat more then normal. The bottom line is that you need to be aware of what your doing. Realize when enough is enough, even if you didn't feel full, 5 pieces is a lot even when I was pre op. Call your doc, watch what your doing and you'll be fine! :)

I don't mean to be rude but I could never eat 5 pieces of pizza before my surgery and to blame it on your period is an escape I think. We had this surgery because we were tired of being overweight and having health problems by allowing yourself to eat after you said you feel full is a problem. You need to use the surgery as a tool. It is not a cure. Listen to your body and if you feel full after two slices stop and drink your water.

Jennifer, I don't mean to be rude, but I saw your BMI is only 36. For some of us who are morbidly obese (BMI over 40), eating 5 small pieces of pizza pre-surgery was what we called a "snack." Please remember many of us are 400-500-600 pounds. Don't make us feel bad by reminding us how you couldn't possibly have put away so much food -- we've heard that all our lives.

Some People can be so "opinionated" and by that they portray themselves as being "perfect". NO ONE is perfect. Yes, this is a tool, and like any tool, everyday you learn to use it differently. Like another post said, there are days when I too feel like I'm not getting enough to eat, and there are days when I can bareley keep water down without feeling "full". This board is meant to "help" others with their expiriences NOT harshly and anonymously critisize.

There is no doubt in my mind that everyone who replied to this post was in their own way trying to be helpful. However, if you will reread her concerns, she asked our opinions as to whether she could have a staple disruption, NOT for us to diagnose as to whether she needed counseling because of her desire to continue eating after full. Please folks, remember that each and EVERY one of us who had this surgery had to have it because we had food issues we could not control on our own. Acting horrified as to the amount she could eat (and PLEASE....some of you never ate 5 pieces of pizza pre surgery? I find that extremely hard to believe..if that is the case why did you need a surgery geared entirely to control the amount you ate?) Just because we succeed and begin losing weight after the surgery doesn't mean that WE are now in control or that we are any "better", than the next postie. It means the surgical procedure is working to HELP us maintain control. I'd be willing to bet that if we would be honest with ourselves most of us (if not all) still have those same issues and desire to continue eating even after we "should" be satisfied according to others standards (i.e. those people who have no clue what an eating disorder is). As for me, I could easily eat five pieces of pizza prior to surgery and be "hungry" an hour later. And about a month ago I actually had 4 small square pieces of thin crust Dominoes pizza and definitely could have had another but forced myself to stop. I also find that I can eat much more than I ever thought I would be able to, so don't go by others who say they get full on a tablespoon or two of food. Everybody is different. You will learn your limitations. Just do not get into a vicious circle of eating and then feeling guilty and like a failure. Listen to your body. If you are hungry eat. The entire goal here is to eat "normally", and I know for a fact that thin friends of mine occassionally overindulge and eat 4 or 5 pieces of thin sliced pizza without giving it a thought. Just do your best to eat your healhily at least 90% of the time and you can't go wrong. I hope I didn't offend anybody. It was not my goal. I only want us to remember that we have the power by using this resource to make others worry needlessly or feel ashamed of themselves and that is totally against what this website stands for. Wishing you and everybody else out there the best. D.
