I had my surgery 8/20/01 and have lost about 45 lbs and I'm stuck. For the
last month or so I have been struggling for every pound. When I try to
break my plateau, I focus on water and protein. I try to avoid carbs at
all costs and go to the gym more. It is very frustrating to hear about
people losing 50 lbs in like 3 weeks. I just remember that I have a year
and a small loss is better than no loss at all. And definately better than
where I was. Hang in there. I've also noticed if I religiously keep track
of my weekly weigh ins, I am losing steadily, just slowly. Hang in there!
Best of Luck.

I've lost pretty fast (57 lbs in 8 weeks) and I can tell you what's making
it happen for me, in the hopes that something in my regimen will help you.
:-)

Take your measurements! NOW! Even if you're not
losing pounds, you are likely losing inches, and you can take heart in
that.
Water: 2-3 liters a day, YES, *LITERS*
Protein: at
least 60 grams, at least 30 of them from predigested protein
shakes
At least 30 minutes of break-a-sweat exercise EVERY DAY. No
exceptions, and go until you are really sweaty as often as possible. You
will start to enjoy it. :-)
No sugar
As few carbs as
possible
Don't weigh every day (like I do LOL). Once a week is
really enough.
If all of these things do not help, it's worth it
to ask your surgeon. He might want to scope you. You could have a staple
line disruption. How much food can you eat?
Hang in there. Whenever
I feel like the scale is stuck, I do all this stuff, and then I measure,
and I find another inch or two gone, or I weigh, and eventually, another
pound goes. My body does seem to stop at weights where I was stable for a
while in the past, and that can be really frustrating too. If your staples
are good and you are following the "rules," you will lose
at least half of your excess weight in a year. Isn't that exciting?!

I had Open RNY 6/13/01. From 348 to 266 as of yesterday, 11/15/01. Weight
loss slows, but as has been said already, even a small loss is better than
none. Hang in.
