Question:
Has anyone had major surgery six months after gastric bypass?
I am five months post op and I just found out I have to have a hysterectomy within the next month or two. My questions are as follows: Has anyone had major surgery after having gastric bypass? Is it possible to have a tummy-tuck done while having the hysterectomy? Are there any added risk or complications since I just had major surgery? Is there anything in particular I should be concerned about? Thanks. — Teresa G. (posted on November 13, 2001)

Hi Teresa! I had my RNY on April 30th, developed some complications and
had ANOTHER major surgery 3 weeks later. Then 3 1/2 weeks ago, I had a
complete hysterectomy. My hysterectomy was a lot easier than the RNY and
second surgery. The only part that was bad about my hysterectomy was that
I came out of surgery with an Nasogastric Tube. My doctor was afraid I
might develope an ileus, so that is why it was put in. The risks of the
surgery are the same as with any surgery. But I think you will see you
recover easier than with bypass surgery. Good luck and my prayers are with
you!
