Question:
Is Underwood Chicken Spread an acceptable food postop?

I occassionaly enjoy a sandwich with Underwood Chicken spread. Its soft and creamy. Seems it would be a good form of protein and I imagine easy to digest. I wouldn't want to have it on two slices of bread like I do now, but wonder if it would work on some type of cracker. I'm having the RNY. Thank you.    — Donna L. (posted on November 3, 2001)

Hi, I have a terrible time with meats or chicken, but the chicken spread seems to do ok with me. I occasionally have it. But to answer your question, yes I think it is a good choice for a post op diet.

I think that's an excellent meal/snack. I would not count it for any protein (being food), but on a good quality grain cracker, it'd be a good meal.

Does it say how much protein, fat, & sugar is in the spread? Is it within your range? Not enough protein? ..have it for a small snack. As for bread, toast it and have it on one slice of bread for an open face sandwich.

Just keep in mind it's 10 grams of fat in 1/4 cup or if eat the whole can in a day you are talking 20 grams of fat so you wouldn't want to make a habit of it. The up side is it's easy to keep down and taste like a "real" food after a long liquid diet.

You might also try it on toasted Pepperidge Farm "Very Thin" bread. Two slices equal one slice of regular bread.

Underwood Chicken Spread is the ONLY thing I have eaten in 8 weeks that made me dump. GO FIGURE!
